About
admittd was born out of a deeply personal hospital stay. In January 2025, founder Laura-Lee Brown was admitted with a life threatening gallbladder condition; her bile duct was blocked, her liver enzymes skyrocketed, and she spent five days waiting for surgery.
During that time, she relied on loved ones to bring her small comforts from home: a sweater, a phone charger, anything to make the experience bearable. Bearability wasn’t about the medical condition itself, but about surviving the hospital environment. It struck her that not everyone has the privilege of that kind of support.
As a human-centred design engineer, Laura-Lee began cataloguing all the little ways the hospital experience could be improved: gowns that preserve modesty, clothing that works with IV lines, bedside setups that allow patients to charge their phones without stretching across the room. Her “room” was actually a converted hallway space: the lights never shut off, the staff worked around the clock, and her hallway roommate was loud and angry. It was a vivid reminder of how vulnerable and exposed patients can feel.
admittd exists to transform those moments. It is about turning a difficult chapter into a source of connection, resilience, and dignity.
Meet Laura-Lee
Laura-Lee Brown is a seasoned strategist and entrepreneur with over two decades of experience spanning medtech innovation and venture development. Now repatriated to Canada and raising three children as a single mother, Laura-Lee blends unmatched clarity and heart into admittd. Her leadership combines corporate rigour with grassroots empathy, making her uniquely equipped to scale a social enterprise that is as operationally sound as it is socially impactful.
